Despite the "2" in the title, it's actually the seventh game since 2002 in the Divinity series from Belgian game developer Larian Studios. These are just a few of the characters you'll meet in Divinity: Original Sin 2, a mouthful of a name for a retro-style roleplaying game that's become a hit among PC gamers. I just want the Red Prince to respect me as a person. Fane and I are not exactly besties, but I'm helping him find a magic mask that can make his skeletal visage pass for human. I'm actually surprised that he can speak, as he appears to be an undead skeleton, and possibly the last remaining member of an ancient race from before the age of man. No more help is Fane, another of my companions. And also a giant anthropomorphic lizard man, possibly with delusions of grandeur. True to his name, he's both red and a prince. Narrative designer Chris Avellone is also playing the demo alongside PCGamer, but the video is commentary-free."I intend to rule an empire one day, not a tiny outcropping in the sea," says the Red Prince when I ask him what our band of adventurers should do next. The way the game starts is one of the many things developer Larian will be changing, according the site. They chose The Red Prince, of the pre-built characters with a backstory. There's also a competitive mode available in the Early Access version. Origin stories determine how other characters and NPCs will treat you, but doesn't factor into stats or abilities. Your created character can have one of four origin stories, available at launch next month, with more to be added later. The Early Access build will launch with five races and supports four player co-op. At present, there is no projected release date for the game, but it's coming to Early Access on September 15. Like its predecessor, Divinity: Original Sin 2 will first launch into Steam Early Access and spend some time there, before becoming available to everyone else later. We're less than a month away from the release of Divinity: Original Sin 2 on Steam.
